FIRST PUBLIC SCHOOL
Although the first local schools were funded privately, Bronxville’s
first public school was built in 1870 on land donated by the DeWitt
brothers. |

 | This one-room, wood-frame structure was replaced in 1906 by a larger brick building. |

Less than two decades later,
Bronxville’s rapid growth required a substantially larger
school. In 1922 work began on the first two wings of today’s
beautiful K-12 public school on Pondfield Road facing the Reformed
Church.
