Incorporated in the mid-1980's as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit membership association, the Friends has grown to encompass some 800 individuals whose mission is to focus public attention on the Library's services, facilities and needs; sponsor special projects; secure materials that are beyond the reach of the regular Library budget, and perform other services helpful to the institution.

How did they begin?

The first active Library partnership coincided with the formal chartering of the institution itself in 1906 when a collection of books was established for public use in the old village hall. A group of civic-minded women raised funds to purchase materials for the fledgling facility. Over the years other gifts came from Bronxville benefactors in bequests and other contributions in appreciation of the vital Library role in setting the style and tone of the community. In the 1980's the solid and enduring legal structure of today's Friends eventually took shape.

What do the Friends do for the Library?

In the past several years, the Friends’ contributions have expanded at a remarkable rate, providing regular financial support for the Library such as:
funding programs for children and teens
sponsoring author visits, musical performances and film series for adults
underwriting other special events of community interest
funding general book, periodical and DVD acquisitions
In addition to these ongoing contributions, the Friends provide special assistance to the Library when needed.  Most recently they have provided funding for special projects such as:
a new rug for use during children’s programs
a new movie screen for the Yeager Room
new book drops
security upgrades
the Trustees’ Art Preservation Project
